For adults who want to get – and keep – good jobs

LiteracyLink Workplace Essential Skills teaches skills and attitudes necessary to succeed at work. Learners see how to prepare resumes and applications and how to prepare themselves for interviews and work. In-depth documentary and scripted footage shows learners what employers are looking for and how to thrive in a new job.

24 documentary-style videos show people as they work and use basic skills on the job; real-life job interviews; and scripted characters as they look for and start new jobs. See program descriptions or download program synopses (pdf).

4 student workbooks (Employment, Communication & Writing, Reading, and Math) begin with a skills preview pre-test and evaluation chart. "Before You Watch" and "After You Watch" sections include pre- and post-tests with answer keys, vocabulary lists, resources, practice and evaluation.

Online lessons and activities at www.pbs.org/literacy use a short video clip and an actual Internet site to apply and extend the video lesson, and develop individual learning goals.

Online Management System license allows teachers to create virtual classrooms to review learners’ work and practice test scores, generate reports, and offer feedback and encouragement through LiteracyLink’s e-mail system.

LiteracyLink Teacher’s Guide helps teachers make effective, well-integrated use of the video, print, and online components, with guidelines for using media in the adult classroom. Each lesson plan is loaded with practical information on GED Connection, Pre-GED Connection and Workplace Essential Skills.

Workplace Essential Skills has been correlated to many popular assessment tools:
